Salon d’Automne de Paris 120th edition – 2024

For this anniversary edition, Florence Lemiegre, artist and member of the Salon d’Automne de Paris since 2018, is exhibiting “Culbutos Serendipity Snow Bloom“.

This contemporary ceramic sculpture is a continuation of the artist’s work, in which the question of balance and imbalance in the living world, stability and instability, strength and fragility are inseparable from all her research. They are themselves interwoven with various explorations and experiments in which matter gives life to color and emotional vibrations. Each of her sculptures involves this question, which is also reflected in the result of a search for equivalence and balance between color and sculptural values, and contrasting materials. Indeed, his creations are often punctuated by a profusion of jovial, dynamic colors, contrasting smoky blacks with shimmering, vibrant glazes.

The artist will be present at the vernissage and every afternoon for the duration of the event.

The 120th anniversary of this internationally renowned event is a wonderful opportunity to discover the worlds of over 1000 artists from 43 countries. It’s also a chance to share in the many festivities (conferences, performances, concerts, fashion shows, not forgetting the presence of Ukrainian artists on a stand, etc.).

Rachid Koräichi is the guest artist and Lady Dewi Sukarno is the godmother of this edition of the Salon d’Automne 2023/2024.

For its 120th anniversary, from January 17 to 21, 2024, the Salon d’Automne de Paris, in collaboration with the Musée de Saulieu and Atelier Prométhée, pays tribute to François Pompon (1855-1933), the animal sculptor who first exhibited at the Salon d’Automne in 1922. François Pompon’s White Bear was both a success and the revelation of a little-known talent who became famous at the age of 67. It marked his entry into art history and, through its originality, marked a break with naturalism, crowned the first modern animal painter of the 20th century.

In a lecture, Liliane Colas, a specialist in Pompon’s work, will retrace the history of this monumental bear, then exhibited in plaster, commissioned in 1927, created in stone and still admired at the Musée d’Orsay, the perfection of the sculpted work in its synthesis and its living presence.

A LITTLE HISTORY:

Created in 1903 in the basement of the Petit Palais in Paris by a few friends grouped around Franz Jourdain, the Salon aims to be a free, strong and independent exhibition of contemporary art. The Salon left its mark on the twentieth century by displaying the avant-gardes that made up modern and contemporary art, at the cost of the major scandals that established its reputation: Fauvism, Cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism, the École de Paris, Abstraction, etc…

The Salon d’Automne de Paris has welcomed many world-renowned artists: Matisse, Modigliani Amédéo, Brancusi Constantin, Chagall Marc, Kandinsky Wassily, Chirico Giorgo, Rodin Auguste, Claudel Camille, Bonnard Pierre, Picasso Pablo, Bourdelle Antoine, Cézanne Paul, Show Ousamane, and many more.

The current President of the Salon d’Automne 2024 is artist photographer Gille Guillaume.
